| CORE operates a Rehabilitation Action Agenda (RAA) Program to demonstrate the benefits of recycled organic materials for the rehabilitation of quarries, mine sites and power facilities. Within the RAA, CORE offers a free service to link appropriate sites with available organic materials for rehabilitation to be provided at no or low cost. CORE also monitors the stockpiling and use of the materials and provides soil development advice and testing services so that best practice case studies can be developed showing the benefits of organic materials to consultants, Government and industry. | ||

The RAA has supplied over 100,000 tonnes of material. In NSW CORE has engaged some of the largest mine sites, quarries and power facilities. Results from participating operators have demonstrated significant benefits of reduced water usage, dust and weed suppression, erosion control/bank stabilisation, reduced plant mortalities, reduced fertiliser cost and the accumulation of a valuable soil/humus bank for future use. Once sites are identified, CORE engages the operator and commences Stage One of the program that includes site visits and developing a project plan (including materials handling and environmental procedures) with CORE monitoring the material during the management phase. Stage Two includes the delivery and management of the materials on the site. Stage Three includes advice on the spreading and incorporation of the organics into the soil prior to vegetation planting by the site operators. The sites need to supply some room to stockpile the materials prior to incorporation into the soil profile and materials handling equipment for the rehabilitation project. Materials can be stockpiled for long periods prior to application. A supervisor is assigned to oversee the initial period of the program who can provide advice on the various uses for the material on site as well as investigate projects to provide opportunities for the optimum re-use of mine overburdens or sludges. An initial trial stage may be necessary in some circumstances prior to entering into a full-scale supply.
