Organic and Sustainable Viticulture

Viticulture Action Agenda - Expanding Organic and Sustainable Viticulture Interested in Sustainable or Organic Viticulture?
Require Quality Certified Inputs?
Require More Information and Advice ?

As part of the Viticulture Action Agenda Strategy scientific research has been carried out to identify connections between tailored input products and improved grape quality and production as well as other expressed needs of growers.

The NSW Viticulture Action Agenda Strategy 2003 extends to the whole state with the following being some of the main objectives the strategy:

  • Develop a network of viticulture stakeholders and organic input product manufacturers;
  • Facilitate supplier to buyer relationships;
  • Provide links to enable improved communication flows;
  • Scientifically identify, measure and validate vine performance aspects;
  • Improve the knowledge of all stakeholders for sustainability in the viticulture sector;
  • Enable improved mutual understanding in order to better meet customer needs; and
  • Provide extension programs from the strategy to facilitate carbon based sustainable agriculture, organic input product usage, cleaner production concepts, the development of a "premium" positioning strategy, and guidance to incorporate other relevant "sustainable quality" principles into vineyard management practices.
CORE facilitates these objectives by forming positive relationships with National, State and Regional Viticulture Industry Associations. These relationships are based on meeting the (mutual) needs of the respective organisations including, use of organic input products (carbon based agriculture), grape marc management and compliance with phylloxera regulatory and procedural requirements including the VitiSafe Phylloxera Prevention Protocol.

The Vitisafe Phylloxera Prevention Protocol is a product quality certification and approval process to allow the transport of composted material into viticultural areas designated as Phylloxera Free/Exclusion Zones.
