| Compost and mulches are made by the controlled composting of community green waste collected by your Council. The organic material is composted at professional local licensed composting facilities and monitored to national composting standards (AS/NZS 4454: 2003 - Composts, Soil Conditioners and Mulches). | ![]() |
| The project demonstrates the benefits of recycling to the whole community. It shows the need for the community to provide their organics to Council for recycling and to only put vegetation materials in the green waste bins. | |
| If you do not not put your green waste in the correct recycling bin it may be put disposed into landfill and the valuable organic resource is lost forever. In landfills in anaerobic (lacking oxygen) conditions the material degrades into leachates and methane that cause harm to the environment. Leachate run-off can harm local waterways and methane contributes to global warming. | |
| We encourage you take part in this wonderful program that helps your garden, saves you money and helps to help the environment be healthy for you, your children and their children. | |
